The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, stressed the seriousness of the Iranian intervention in Yemen and supported the Houthi militias and obstructed efforts to resolve the crisis, demanding a decisive position to make facing this intervention.
He also stressed that the Arab and European position is united on the rejection of Iranian interference in the affairs of the Arab countries.
"The differences in mentality between the Arabs and Europe are centered on the position of the nuclear agreement between Iran and the major countries," he told Sky News Arabiya. "The European side has now understood the importance of the stability of the Arab world and the non-interference in state affairs.
The remarks were made on the sidelines of the Arab-European summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.
On the Libyan question, Aboul Gheit considered that the Libyan dossier "is very complicated because of external interference and the desire of the parties to continue the conflict".
He also stressed the importance of the efforts of the Quartet, formed by the Arab League, the African Union, the European Union and the United Nations, and is currently preparing for a meeting on the sidelines of the Tunis of March.
The secretary general of the Arab League said the position on Syria "is still the same", stressing that to discuss Syria's return to the Arab League, a number of countries should ask to include this issue for discussion, then to make a decision regarding the return of Damascus to the University.
Aboul Gheit explained that the three sessions that would be held during the Arab-European summit would constitute an open agenda and would deal with various bilateral issues between the two parties and regional and international issues.
He said that it was agreed to hold the Arab-European summit every three years, the next summit in Brussels in 2022 and the ministerial meeting every two years.
He added that the announcement that will be made at the end of the summit will focus on the points of agreement between the two parties on all issues under discussion and on ways to develop them.
