Afghan pop star Ariana Saeed told the story of her disguise and her miraculous escape from Kabul airport after the Taliban took control of the country.

Fearing the Taliban fighters would recognize them, she and her fiancé left the airport and hid with relatives in Kabul.

That night, Ariana dressed in black and took her business owner’s cousin and fiancé to make them look like a normal family.
Ariana Saeed got into a car while her fiance and business manager got into another car, and the two began communicating via a walkie-talkie.

Airport officials allowed Ariana’s fiancé in, then called her fiancée Ariana, and the two flew on the morning of August 17 on a U.S. military plane from Kabul that landed in Doha and continued to Istanbul.
