Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director general of the World Health Organization, has asserted that equitable worldwide access to the emerging vaccine against the coronavirus (Covid-19) “is in the interest of all countries”.
Tedros told the Paris Peace Forum that some countries’ monopoly on the Corona vaccine will prolong the pandemic and not shorten it, warning that if poor countries are not able to get the vaccine, “the virus will continue to spread and the global economic recovery will be delayed “.
Tedros added that “some countries buy more vaccines in advance, in quantities more than double their population size, compromising access to vaccines and their accessibility for other countries.”
Tedros explained that the WHO initiative to ensure access to “Covid-19” tests, treatments and vaccines across the world has a funding gap of $ 28.5 billion, of which 4 , 5 billion “are urgently needed to maintain momentum”.
