Energy Minister Khalid al-Falih said on Wednesday that the kingdom hoped to reach an agreement this year to resume oil production from the divided region with Kuwait.
Asked about the probable date of an agreement between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, al-Faleh said according to Reuters: "We hope to solve this problem in 2019.
Referring to the possibility of reaching a settlement in 2019, the minister added: "I have confidence.
The Energy Minister met on Tuesday with the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
The agency pointed out that the resumption of production of oil deposits in the divided region could add up to 500,000 barrels a day to Saudi and Kuwaiti production.
The Saudi-Kuwaiti divided area of 5,770 square kilometers on the border between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait remained undetermined when the border was demarcated by the Al-Aqeer Treaty on December 2, 1922.
