In an interview with Al-Masry Al-Youm newspaper, he was videotaped, and questioned on the reason for his “strong defense of the Kingdom of Tiran and Sanafir”, Mustafa Bakri said that “the decision was taken by former President Hosni Mubarak in 1990 and informed the United Nations about it at the time.

Bakri said: “The current president, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, did not make the decision, but approved it and did.”

In response to Bakri’s statement, Alaa Mubarak, son of former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, cynically commented on the information published on the “Al-Masry Al-Youm” page.
