Amnesty International on Friday urged the Egyptian authorities to "promptly carry out a thorough, independent and impartial investigation" into the death of an inmate under the pretext of torture.
The organization said in a statement that Hossam Hamid, 30, had spent in Scorpio prison, referring to statements from "sources close to the incident", that he was physically assaulted at several times by guards while he was placed in solitary confinement in a disciplinary cell.
