Yelena Gubkina, head of the endocrinology department at the “Medicenter” clinical diagnostic center, said that quitting nicotine increases feelings of hunger, which can lead to weight gain.
The expert added: “However, this does not mean the need to maintain the habit of smoking.”
“Nicotine reduces the feeling of hunger and slows down the process of absorption of food in the intestine,” Gopkina said.
The doctor advised those who quit smoking to exercise more and choose their diet carefully. It is best, after quitting smoking, to consult a nutritionist and keep the state of health under observation.
Gobkina pointed out that the body during this period does not have a sufficient amount of regular water, which leads to drinking it in a certain amount, usually to normalize the position of the body.
