Death has provoked the indignation of some football stars and well-known personalities in Iran, where women are banned from playing football, although they are allowed to do so in other sports, such as volleyball.
Sahar Khaddiyari died at the hospital on Monday, the semi-official Shafaqna news agency reported.
Sahar is known as the "blue girl" on social media because the color of the shirt of her favorite team is "Istiklal".
She ignited on fire a week ago after learning that she could be jailed for attempting to enter a stadium in February for the Esteghlal club.
She claimed to be a man wearing a blue wig and a long coat when the police stopped her. She spent three nights in prison before being released pending trial and no verdict has been rendered in her case.
Ando Timurian, the first Christian player to lead Iran and Istiklal, said on Twitter that one of Tehran's main football stadiums would call Khedayari "someday in the future" .
Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi, Iran's Minister of Information and Communication Technology, described the death as "a terrible accident".
"We are all responsible for what happened," said MP Parvaneh Salah Chouri, who described Khaddiyari as "the daughter of Iran".
