Apple has expressed interest in the next generation of 3D sensor technology manufactured by Sony, according to reports.
This technology will be used in the next generation of 3D cameras: front and back, in many phones that will be launched in 2019.
"The cameras are revolutionizing the phones and, based on what I've seen, I have the same expectations for 3D technology," said Satoshi Yoshihara, a Sony executive who leads the company's sensor business.
The identity of companies other than Apple, which is interested in adopting new sensors for its company, has been kept secret, although many of them have been reported, according to information published to the press.
Apple's interest in these sensors because it is better than the sensors currently used by the company, a three-dimensional sensor (Tru Deppeth 3D), that it offers advanced technology.
Sony uses a method called "flight time", in which the laser pulses are then emitted and measured to determine the time required for their return, in the same way as the Ledar technology used in motor vehicles.
The technology is capable of running up to five meters long, which can open up a number of potential applications ahead of 3D sensor technology.
