Apple plans to roll out a new, high-end version of the Mac mini with a similar new type of chip, according to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gorman in his Power On newsletter.
And last year, the company introduced a line of new computers that included the M1 chip, the first processor it designed for its computers.
The new iMac is the latest addition to the lineup. But the company introduced the new chip with the MacBook Pro, Mac Mini, and MacBook Air updates.
However, at the same time, I kept an older version of my Mac mini. The new version was intended to replace only top-level computers. So it also kept the more expensive and more powerful versions of the Mac mini.
These computers offer additional features, including more ports on the back. But it also still includes Intel processors that Apple is keeping away from as it switches to its own processors in all of its computers.
To do this, in the case of the Mac mini, the company has to come up with a more powerful chip to meet the higher demands of that more expensive unit.
The company plans to do this with the M1X chip, which is expected to launch in the coming months.

The company used the “X” suffix for upgraded versions of processors in the past when it upgraded to the iPad.
For the most part, that has meant taking the basic architecture of the current chip designed for the iPhone. But with more CPU and GPU cores added, the tablet can handle the highest demands.
In addition to the more powerful processor, the company plans to introduce an updated design. It is not known what this design looks like.
Most of the computers that received the M1 upgrade retained the same design. The new iMac was the only device from the company that was redesigned in conjunction with the acquisition of the new chip, being much thinner and lighter than previous models, in addition to offering new colors.
And like the previous iMac, the Mac mini went without any form of exterior redesign for years. The design is the same as in 2010, although the ports and finishes have changed slightly.
