Salah and Maherz win the title of African player of the year
The African Union (CAF) announced Friday the list of Arab candidates selected for the African Footballer 's Award of the year 2018.
Among the 10 names proposed, the Arab presence was evident with five players, led by Egyptian Egyptian star Mohamed Salah and winner of the prize, and Algerian Riad Mehrez in Manchester City.
The list also included Mehdi Ben Attia, defender of Juventus and the Moroccan team, Tunisia's Anis Badri, Tunisian midfielder Esperance, African champion, and Egypt's other Walid Suleiman, Egypt's Al Ahly, who led his team to the final of the African Champions League after a series of magnificent performances.
In addition to the five Arabs, there are a similar number of players from the rest of the continent, the Senegalese player Sadio Mani in Liverpool, Pierre Emeric Obamyang of Arsenal and Gabon and Alex Eioubi of his team in London, and the Cameroonian keeper André Onana of Ajax. Amsterdam and Ugandan Denis Onyango of Mownodi Sundowns of South Africa.
Salah, the top scorer and Premier League player of last season, was crowned the title last year, ahead of Mani and Obamyang.
The trophies of the Confederation of African Football will be held in the Senegalese capital of Dakar on January 8th.
