The International Organization for Migration announced yesterday, Thursday, the death of at least 74 migrants, following the sinking of a ship off Khums in Libya, yesterday, Thursday.

According to a report from the United Nations website, the boat was carrying more than 120 people, including women and children.

The site said the coast guard and fishermen were able to bring 47 people to the beach and 31 bodies were recovered, while the search for victims continues.

The International Organization for Migration said at least 19 people, including two children, have died in the past two days after two boats capsized in the central Mediterranean.

At least 900 people have drowned in the Mediterranean Sea as they try to reach European shores, some due to delays in rescue operations during the current year, according to the International Organization for Migration. .

Federico Soda, director of the International Organization for Migration in Libya, said:

“The increasing loss of human life in the Mediterranean is a manifestation of the inability of nations to take decisive action to redeploy search and rescue capabilities essential to the world’s deadliest sea passages.”

The International Organization for Migration has recorded a sudden increase in departures from the country, with around 1,900 people intercepted and returned, and more than 780 people have arrived in Italy from Libya since the start of October alone.
