Ariane Space, of the European Space Agency, has launched a rocket carrying the first six satellites as part of an ambitious global Internet service.
The Soyuz rocket was successfully launched from the Kourou Space Center in French Guiana, Arianespace announced.
One Web, a satellite company based in the United States, plans to assemble 650 satellites as an initial group, which would bring this group to 900 satellites.
One Web contracts Ariane Space to launch 21 Russian-made Soyuz rockets from the Kuro Space Center.
The company said launches planned later this year would send more than 30 satellites simultaneously.
The satellites, which will be placed in a low Earth orbit at an altitude of 1,200 km, will provide broadband broadband services "even in the most remote places on Earth," according to One Web.
The company says its network requires fewer than 600 satellites to provide global coverage.
The company announced that the customer service experience would begin next year, with full coverage of the global coverage service by 2021.
