Astronomers discover a unique planet 1,300 light-years away

Astronomers have made an exciting discovery related to the GW Orionis system, which is only 1300 light years away.

Previously, scientists believed that GW Orionis is not much different from our solar system, knowing that this system is made up of three stars partially surrounded by rings of space debris.

But a new study by researchers at the University of Nevada, America, has shown a big gap in dusty rings, according to the “CNET” website, which specializes in scientific news.

In an article published in the Journal of the Royal Astronomical Society, astronomer Jeremy Smallwood explained that there is a possibility of the presence of a planet or huge planets in the region that separates the discs of the GW Orionis system.

Smallwood added: “It is possible that this planet or these planets are gaseous, like Jupiter, but what sets it apart is the presence of 3 suns orbiting around it.”

Astronomers have previously discovered planets in triple star systems, such as LTT 1445Ab, which has three suns in its sky, but orbits a single star.
