Iraqi Foreign Minister Mohammed al-Hakim on Wednesday announced his country's support for the return of Damascus to its seat in the League of Arab States.

Hakim's speech was delivered at a joint press conference with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov in Moscow.

"We discussed three main axes, the first being the bilateral relations between the Russian Federation and Iraq, the second the regional problems related to Syria, Palestine and Iran, and the third component about international relations, "Hakim said at a press conference broadcast by Iraqi television.

He added: "We must resolve the Syrian crisis and try to find a solution for Syria's return to the Arab League," noting that "the Iraqi government supports the return of Syria to the League of Arab States".

In response to a question on whether Iraq will enter into the alliance the United States intends to form against Iran, Hakim said: "Iraq will not enter into any alliance against Tehran".
