Barbie, the world-famous doll, is celebrating its 60th anniversary on Saturday with new collections embodying real models and a career where women are still not well represented.
This is part of Barbie's development over the decades since she first appeared at the New York Doll Show on March 9, 1959.
To celebrate the occasion, Mattel made copies of a Barbie for 20 women who inspired those of Japanese tennis star Naomi Osaka to model and British activist, embodying her parents.
The company also launched six dolls representing an astronaut, a plane pilot, a power player, a journalist, a politician and a firefighter. Mattel said women are not adequately represented.
