Yesterday Monday, the Catalan authorities arrested former Barcelona club president Josep Bartomeu and several of his associates in connection with investigations into a corruption case at the club, known in the media as ” Barsaget “.

The police arrested Bartomeu when they raided the premises of “Barça” at the “Camp Nou” stadium, in addition to three others: Oscar Grau, the former general manager of the club, Roman Gómez Ponte, director of legal services, and Jaume Masferrer, adviser to the former president.

Signs of the scandal can be traced back to investigations carried out by the Catalan police last year, based on the confession of Noelia Romero, whom Bartomeu expelled from his job at the Catalan club, and his statements proved that the former council of Barcelona administration had entered into a contract with “I3 Ventures”, in order to lead public opinion through social media pages, polish the image of its members and defame certain people and entities who would oppose the leadership de Bartomeo, as Barca captain Lionel Messi and veteran defender Gerard Pique, in addition to some of the club’s presidential candidates.

And this case occupied public opinion in Barcelona last year, and it became known in the media about the “Barsaget” scandal.

And police said in their investigation last year that there was evidence of corruption in the “Parsgate” affair, and that Barcelona’s contract with “I3 Ventures” to follow up on club news on social media, was for an amount that could be 6 times higher than usual.

Police said “contracts and invoices were fraudulently divided to avoid oversight by the club’s supervisory authority.”

Barcelona have suffered from numerous crises over the past season, but the crisis in the treatment of “I3 Ventures” has affected the squad as a whole and Messi’s relationship with Bartomeu management in particular.

The ‘Parsgate’ affair was one of the main reasons Messi asked to leave ‘Barca’ last summer.
