FIFA has decided to host the 2022 World Cup in Qatar if the number of teams of 32 teams were to be increased to 48.
Qatar plans to organize the tournament on 8 stadiums, but if FIFA increases the number of teams to 48, it will have to give up part of its right to host the tournament and the participation of some neighboring countries.
A FIFA study revealed that Qatar would not have to participate in the 2022 World Cup with Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, unless restoring their relations with Qatar and of lift the embargo imposed on them since June 2017.
According to this study, Qatar's "boycott countries" should lift the blockade first to qualify for some World Cup matches if the number of teams participating in the tournament increases to 48.
The study revealed that Kuwait and Oman are qualified to host some of the World Cup matches because of their positive attitude and their neutrality during the Gulf crisis.
The study was prepared and submitted to the FIFA Council for consideration before its meeting in Miami, where the debate will be held on the possibility of increasing the number of teams in Qatar 2022 from 32 to 48.
