Britney Spears was elated, saying she was “in the nine heavens right now” after a judge suspended her father’s guardianship.
The pop singer posted a video of herself taking a flying lesson, shortly after the court announced the suspension of guardianship of her father, Jimmy Spears.
At a hearing in Los Angeles, Judge Brenda Penny formally ended guardianship proceedings the court has approved for the star’s father since 2008.
And she left in her place a separate tutelage of the accountant, John Zabel, who was chosen by the singer’s legal team.
The singer’s attorney, Matthew Rosengart, said he “hopes and expects” the entire guardianship to end in a hearing on November 12.
For his part, Jamie Spears, through his lawyer, described the verdict as “disappointing”.
International artist Cher and artists Dionne and Eric were among those who welcomed the court judge’s decision.
Judge Penny ruled that Spears’ care should be turned over to Zabel “immediately”, saying it was “in the best interests of the testator.”

“The court was wrong to stop Jimmy’s custody and put a stranger in his place to manage Britney’s property,” she added.

The Journalists Union said supporters outside the Los Angeles courtroom “celebrated in style” when the news broke.
Musician Benjamin Elgar said after hearing the ruling that it was “good news” that Jamie Spears’ tutorship was suspended and not terminated “so they would have time to investigate further, into anything that happens”.
“Britney will be free after everything that happens, all of her fans, the media, all the documentaries that have come out have put a lot of pressure on the court to speed up the process,” Elgar added.
