Britney Spears was elated, saying she was “in the nine heavens right now” after a judge suspended her father’s guardianship.
The pop singer posted a video of herself taking a flying lesson, shortly after the court announced the suspension of guardianship of her father, Jimmy Spears.
At a hearing in Los Angeles, Judge Brenda Penny formally ended guardianship proceedings the court has approved for the star’s father since 2008.
And she left in her place a separate tutelage of the accountant, John Zabel, who was chosen by the singer’s legal team.
The singer’s attorney, Matthew Rosengart, said he “hopes and expects” the entire guardianship to end in a hearing on November 12.
For his part, Jamie Spears, through his lawyer, described the verdict as “disappointing”.
International artist Cher and artists Dionne and Eric were among those who welcomed the court judge’s decision.
Judge Penny ruled that Spears’ care should be turned over to Zabel “immediately”, saying it was “in the best interests of the testator.”
“This will be the start of a new life for you Britney,” Cher wrote on Twitter, as Warrick posted a video expressing her “full support”.
“My heart goes out to Britney Spears,” said veteran star LaToya Jackson. “I feel her pain. How could anyone take what she’s going through?” She added.
“Congratulations to Britney Spears !!!” added Jackson.
It is reported that Spears’ attorneys have requested a new hearing within 30 to 45 days to decide whether to end the guardianship completely, and Rosengart added: “Britney doesn’t think a mental assessment is necessary, and I don’t. Certainly not think so either. . “
“Private security film”
A recent documentary claims that a private security film used by Jimmy Spears put his daughter under constant surveillance.
BBC Sound presenter Pandora Sykes said: “With the suspension of guardianship, Britney’s legal team can look into all of this before acting to end the guardianship permanently in November.”
A U.S. court named Jamie Spears her daughter’s guardian in 2008 over concerns about her mental health.
Earlier this year, Britney made strong allegations that her father abused her site, which her father and team have repeatedly denied.
In a statement released Thursday, Spears’ attorney said Jamie loved his daughter “unconditionally” and had “tried to do what’s best for her.”
“These facts make the outcome of yesterday’s hearing disappointing and, frankly, a loss for Britney herself,” said lawyer Vivian Thorin.
“The court was wrong to stop Jimmy’s custody and put a stranger in his place to manage Britney’s property,” she added.
“Despite the suspension of guardianship, Spears will continue to act in her daughter’s best interests and work in good faith towards a positive resolution of all issues,” Thorin said.
“We were screaming so loud”
Britney fans around the world, who have supported her via the #FreeBritney hashtag campaign, are thrilled with this week’s developments.
A rally was held outside the courthouse on Wednesday, while his fans also gathered in Trafalgar Square in London.
The Journalists Union said supporters outside the Los Angeles courtroom “celebrated in style” when the news broke.
Musician Benjamin Elgar said after hearing the ruling that it was “good news” that Jamie Spears’ tutorship was suspended and not terminated “so they would have time to investigate further, into anything that happens”.
“Britney will be free after everything that happens, all of her fans, the media, all the documentaries that have come out have put a lot of pressure on the court to speed up the process,” Elgar added.
One fan said when the news broke, “We were screaming so loud. Everything we have worked for has come true here today.”
