The European Space Agency (ESA) has used a satellite to monitor the wind and atmosphere of the Starlink project, belonging to the SpaceX group, in order to avoid a possible collision with an Internet satellite provided by the same group.
"As the number of satellites in orbit increases, it will be necessary to entrust AI to avoid collisions," said the agency in a tweet.
Starlink currently has 62 satellites in Earth orbit, but Elon Musk, president of SpiceX, plans to launch 12,000 of them to provide broadband Internet access to the world.
The agency said it performed 28 maneuvers to avoid collisions in 2018 "due to non-functional satellites or previous collision fragments".
