BEIJING, Dec.3 (Xinhua) – A Chinese spacecraft carrying the country’s first samples of the moon took off from the moon’s surface on Thursday evening, the National Space Administration said.

It is the first Chinese spacecraft to take off from an object external to Earth.

The “Chang’e-5” probe, which includes an orbiter, a lander, an ascender and a reentry vehicle, took off on November 24, and the group of landing-landing gear landed in the “storm ocean “on the near face of the moon on December 1st.

After collecting samples, the probe’s ascendant lifted off from the moon’s surface and is expected to perform an unmanned maneuver and join the orbiter-return group in lunar orbit, an unprecedented achievement.

The “Chang’e-5” mission is one of the most complex and difficult in the history of Chinese aerospace, as well as the world’s first moon sample collection mission in over 40 years.
