"Chrome" will soon remove support for FTP addresses

File Transfer Protocol (FTP) was a popular way to host files online, It was also used to manage files on servers, but it was not designed to be secure because it has many vulnerabilities.

In the same vein, there is nowadays a low use of FTP, That's why Google announced that it would soon drop support for FTP connections from its Chrome browser.

Although this announcement was born at the time, Google started there since the release of Chrome 59, where pages were prohibited from embedding content from FTP servers, and on version 72 of Chrome, it was obliged to download all FTP links instead of displaying them in the browser.

In this context, Google said: "The use of FTP has become so weak that it is safe to remove any support."

The company continued:The current FTP application in Google Chrome does not support encrypted communications (FTPS), and the use of FTP in the browser is low enough so that it is no longer possible to use the FTP. invest in the optimization of the current FTP client. ".

Mozilla is also considering removing FTP support in its Firefox browser. But to date, the company has not made any official announcement regarding when to remove this grant.

Apple has not addressed this issue with its Safari browser either.

It is now rare for anyone to access files on the FTP server because many applications designed for this purpose are much safer, including Cyberduck.
