NEW YORK (Reuters Health) – Chronic fatigue syndrome (a condition of frequent and persistent fatigue) is linked to the increased activity of the immune system, reveals a recent British study.
According to the study, which is the first of its kind, the impact of this problem usually leads to bedbugs and the inability to perform basic daily activities. Some studies estimate that about 17 million people worldwide have been infected.
The researchers studied 55 patients on treatment with interferon alpha, which is used to treat hepatitis C because of its fatigue. They found that patients whose immune response to treatment was overactive or overactive were more likely to develop severe fatigue.
"For the first time, we show that people at risk of developing a disease like chronic fatigue syndrome have a hyperactive immune system," said Alice Russell of King's College London.
