Citrus fruits protect against the complications of obesity

Scientists from the University of Sao Paulo have shown that citrus fruits are protected against serious complications related to obesity because they contain flavonoids that prevent cell damage.

In laboratory experiments, laboratory rats were divided into groups, the former dealing only with fatty foods and the latter with traditional foods. And the third concerned fatty foods containing substances containing citrus: hesperidine, iristrian and irodictyl. The researchers found that in the body of mice fed on fatty foods, the risk of cell damage increased because of the increased concentration of thioparbitoric acid in the blood, associated with weight gain. The researchers did not notice this in the group that fed traditional foods. In the group that eats fatty foods with citrus compounds, they observed a significant reduction in thioparbituric acid concentration. The research team also found that ingestion of erythrostene and aerodyne compounds slowed the accumulation of fat in the body.
