Scientists at Ikahan College of Medicine in Mount Sinai, New York, have confirmed that most of those recovering from mild and moderate “Covid-19” have immunity to it that lasts for at least several months.

Study: not all antibodies are equal in combat

Science magazine reports that this study included 30,082 patients with “Covid-19” who were all examined at the Mount Sinai Center. The results showed that more than 90% of them had immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies against protein S, the level of which remained stable in five months, and their concentration was directly related to the degree of neutralization of SARS- CoV-2.

The researchers used the “ELISA” method, which is based on the interrelation between the antibody and the antigen.

The results of this study did not confirm the results of previous studies indicating that antibodies to the coronavirus disappear quickly in people who have recovered from the disease, and do not provide long-term immunity.

Previously, scientists at Imperial College London had announced, based on the results of a study of 365,000 adults, who had undergone rapid tests based on a lateral flow immunoassay, which works on the same principle as ELISA method, that the level of anti-coronavirus antibodies in human blood decreased. Faster than expected. However, this method is less reliable than the ELISA method.
