Al-Marsad Journal: A consultant and professor of cardiology and arterial catheterization, Dr Khaled Al-Nimr, advised those who are required to sign a consent to perform surgery, to ask the doctor 3 questions before agreeing the operation.

Al-Nimr said, via his Twitter account, that the doctor should explain to the patient and his family before taking the consent signature, why the patient has to have the operation? What are the risks involved? What are the other options for the patient if he does not want the operation?

The consultant called for the need to always ask about other options available, and that this is one of the doctor’s professional duties, citing an example of a situation that arose with a person whose father suffered from gangrene and was asked to sign an approval for an amputation, before going to her father in another hospital and her condition was treated without the need for this operation.
