The latest version of the iPhone operating system, iOS 15, has several new features that use artificial intelligence to analyze the content of an image.

While object-in-picture recognition has been around for some time, the novelty of the iPhone is that this time the images are processed on the iPhone, rather than being transferred to a cloud server. In addition, it is integrated into the operating system.

One of the most widely used applications of this new technology is the ability to copy and paste text from an image – so, for example, users can take a photo of a page in a book and then take this text and place it in a document or note.

It also makes it easier for users to identify contact or email numbers by recognizing phone numbers and email addresses that have been noted down, from a business card, and it also works with handwritten text. .

How it works?

Take a photo of the text you want to copy into a document, even if it’s a recipe from a cookbook.

Then go to the Photos app and select the image containing the text you want to copy. Then tap on the text you want to copy with your finger, the same way you would in the Apple Notes app or in text messages, and two text selection dots will appear on the image.

Extend the text selection indicators to cover all the text you want to copy. And then hit “Copy”.

Go to the word processor of your choice, click on the text field and paste it.

You can also take a photo of the text and place it directly in the Notes app, as the new feature also works directly in a word processor such as the Notes app.

To find out how, tap the screen and choose the icon in the pop-up window that looks like three lines of text in a box, which points to the Live Text icon.

Then the camera window will appear in the lower half of the screen. Point it at a text and the program will recognize it automatically.

And Apple’s software will highlight the text it wants to insert into the app in the image window.

Press the blue “Insert” button when the program selects the right part of the text.
