When artist Jean Heath couldn’t find a place to store her paintings during the lockdown caused by the Covid-19 outbreak, she developed an innovative way around the issue.
Heath, a retired teacher from Great Yarmouth in Norfolk, England, now paints miniature works on used tea bags.
She said: “At first I painted a lot during the shutdown caused by the Covid epidemic, and I stored what I painted all over the house until I ran out of space.”
While searching online for inspiration, I found Heath, an American artist using this technique, and in early January, she came up with her own ideas for using herbal tea bags to paint.
She found that she “enjoyed the challenge” using such a small area, and has produced dozens of works of art in this manner since.
“Adding tea stains to the background some of them get a lot darker so you end up with a vintage background,” Heath added.
“Then I paint according to the background color already on the used tea bags,” she says.
“I also try to match the stickers with colors to make them technically fun,” she added, “like the three ginger teabags I used to paint. 3 Cats whose fur tends to be reddish. “
Heath, a former coffee drinker, bought loose tea bags and asked friends and family to send the ones with unusual labels.
“I think I recycle it,” she says.
“I don’t know how long it will last, but it should last like acrylic paints,” she added.
