The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), Pierre Krinpaul, said his agency was proud of its partnership with Arab countries and the Arab League and was grateful for the role played by the Arab countries in solving the financial problem met by the Agency last year.

In his speech at the opening of the League Council to Foreign Ministers at its ordinary session, 151 Arab countries declared that the Agency had never faced such a threat in 2018 after the United States had reduced their financial support to the Agency.
He added: "Thanks to your support, we have overcome this serious problem by thanking the Arab countries and the Arab League, especially Egypt, Jordan and Palestine, for supporting the Agency, as well as the generous financial support from Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
He said the support of the countries of the United States, Asia and Europe was a message addressed to Palestinian refugees to remind them that they were not forgotten.

He added that the agency had cut spending by $ 92 million last year, as well as an additional $ 60 million reduction to offset the reduced amount by the United States.
He stressed that defending the rights of Palestinian refugees is a defense of stability in the region.
