As Europe remained in the eye of the storm from the second wave of the Coronavirus, amid accelerated government measures to limit the spread of the epidemic, attention turned yesterday to the Arab world, some of which countries have taken strict measures, including curfews, in anticipation of the arrival of a new wave that could be more severe than the first.
In Jordan, citizens began to “forcibly reside” at home over the weekend, in accordance with the government’s decision to impose a comprehensive curfew, in light of the deployment of the armed forces (the Arab army), which imposed closing points at the entrances and exits of large cities and governorates, while the General Security Agency took control inside neighborhoods.
The Sultanate of Oman, in turn, announced a traffic ban and the closure of public places and shops from eight in the evening to five in the morning, from tomorrow, Sunday, until Saturday, October 24.
This came in anticipation of the Tunisian government announcing the expansion of the curfew imposed in 6 states to include 13 states, or more than half of the country’s total.
Meanwhile, Germany intends to enlist the help of military experts in areas where the virus is spreading. The German news agency reported that Chancellor Angela Merkel and the mayors of major cities agreed at their meeting yesterday that 35 new cases were registered out of 100,000 people within seven days. For its part, the Spanish government has decided to activate the state of emergency to re-impose partial general isolation that would be applied in the capital Madrid and its surroundings, which are among the worst outbreaks of (Covid-19) in Europe.
