A young Iranian of Arab descent paid the price for his sexual orientation with his life after 3 people, including his half-brother, killed him in Ahwaz, Khuzestan province, according to reports from the IranWire website.

The Iranian opposition news agency reported that 20-year-old Ali Fadhili Monfared, known as “Ali Reza”, was killed by 3 people because of his homosexuality.

At least two of her family members were aware of a letter from the Iranian regime’s military recruiting organization stating that Alireza was not eligible for recruitment due to her sexual orientation.

Ajil Abiyat, Alireza’s best friend, told IranWire: “Tuesday at 7 p.m. Ali Reza had a phone conversation with his mother for the last time.”

He added, “After that, his half-brother came to see him, pretending that their father wanted to see him, took him to the car and drove him out of town, accompanied by two other people.”

The three people kidnapped Ali Reza, who belongs to the Iranian Arab minority, on Tuesday evening, took him to the village of Burumi, near the capital Ahwaz, and killed him during the night.

Ali Reza was not at home when the military service exemption card arrived, according to his friend Agil, because before his death he was planning to sell his cell phone and travel to Turkey.

According to Iranian military law, homosexuals are exempt from military service.

The LGBT community in Iran faces enormous legal and social challenges in a country that discriminates against such people, given that the religious and social norms adopted by the government are incompatible with the gender identity of the LGBT community, according to Human Rights. Watch.

In a 2010 statement, Human Rights Watch noted that “laws and policies that discriminate against gay men and other sexual minorities in Iran expose them to harassment, violence and even death.”
