A new US study at the Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles has linked the scalp cortex with the fungi found in the large intestine.
According to the study, this seems to be the case for some people with a specific genetic makeup because these fungi have an increased number of intestinal disorders, such as inflammatory bowel disease.
It is also more common on intestinal surfaces in patients with Crohn's disease, a chronic inflammatory bowel disease that causes abdominal pain, diarrhea, elevated body temperature, weight loss and various infections.
The presence of this fungus, called malaysia, is associated with a common modification of a gene known to be important for fungal immunity.
According to doctors, the modification of intestinal fungi can be an aggravating factor of the symptoms that contribute to the disease in some patients with Crohn's disease.
