Death of Ghanaian striker Junior Agogo, former Zamalek player

Ghana striker Junior Agogo has died at age 40, Sheffield announced on Wednesday.

He played 27 times for Ghana, scoring 11 goals, he was a star in the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations and moved to Zamalek in the next summer transfer window, scoring four goals in 16 appearances for Zamalek.

The player started his career with Sheffield on Wednesday but let him play in the United States.

He returned to England to play with the Queens Park Rangers in 2002 before moving to Brentford.

Agogo was best known for the Bristol Rovers, who scored 40 goals in three seasons.

He moved to the Nottingham Forest in 2006 and helped them reach the highest level.

"Sheffield United is saddened to learn of the passing of former teammate Junior Agogo," Sheffield said Wednesday on her official Twitter account, "Our condolences go out to his family and friends at this difficult time."

Nottingham Forest wrote: "Rest in peace, the club is saddened to know the passing of Junior Agogo striker.

Agogo ended his career with the Scottish club Herbernian.
