A major international fund to fight deadly diseases, including HIV / AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria, requires new investments worth about $ 14 billion.
French President Emmanuel Macaron has launched in Paris a new campaign to fill the financial gap with the "Global Fund", considering the current status of these funds "as a decisive moment".
The Fund warned of funding problems in the event of non-compliance with political commitments and increased drug resistance.
The increase in the funding goal to fight these diseases is expected to save the lives of about 116 million people worldwide, in addition to halving the death rate of the three diseases.
Targeted funding, of about $ 14 billion, is to be spent on drugs against the spread of HIV / AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.
"Progress stops"
"We have made tremendous progress in reducing the number of deaths, but that progress is now stalled," said Peter Sands, executive director of the fund, at the BBC.
"When I took office, I was surprised by the strong political support of the IMF in several capitals of the world."
"I'm not happy to find the money we need, but the geopolitical environment is clearly complex," he said.
The International Fund is an example of successful fundraising, using international funds from governments for health and fundraising to achieve its goals of fighting deadly diseases.
New risks
Malaria rates increase after years of steady decline. Children account for about two-thirds of deaths due to the disease.
Although drugs that limit the spread of AIDS have recently saved millions of lives, the increase of the young population in Africa threatens the spread of infection to levels higher than the peak of this deadly disease at the beginning of the century .
Tuberculosis kills more people than any other contagious disease.
