Former Real Madrid coach Vicente del Bosque confirmed Thursday that the price of the Golden Ball would lose much of its value if Argentine Lionel Messi was not on the final list .
The first indications of this award include Real Madrid's Luka Modric or one of France's most prominent stars, with no Messi among the top three.
"I'm surprised that Messi is not on the final list," said Del Bosque, who has appeared in a new look without his famous shawl.
"I think this award is worth getting lost if Messi is not at the forefront of the best players in the world, I find it strange."
Argentine star Messi has won the Gold Ball five times and Cristiano Ronaldo has won the same number of gold balls. It seems that both stars are missing from the list of candidates this year.
The winner of the Golden Ball will be officially announced on December 3rd. It is presented by Football Football magazine.
