On Egypt’s most popular ‘trend’ page for 2020, ‘Google’ revealed top searches for Egyptians, from songs to celebrities to series, questions and more.

The list of the 5 most searched songs on “Google” in Egypt all came from festivals, namely “Oud Al Batal”, “Bint Al Jeeran”, “Hala and God” and “Galaxy girls stick and sun“.

No songs from the traditional genres audiences are used to appearing on this list.

This development comes in a year in which conflict erupted between festival singers and the Musical Professions Union led by famous singer Hani Shaker.

Festivals are a relatively new genre, which has started to appear in Egypt in recent years, especially in popular areas, and has made its way to Arab audiences via the Internet, especially “YouTube”, where it has reached hundreds. millions of views, but Hani Shaker and the Syndicate don’t see “YouTube” as a measure.

The wide circulation of these songs also did not prevent severe criticism of this musical genre, as some of them contained words considered “offensive” and “unusual” in Egyptian society.

The songs of Hamo Beka, real name Muhammad Mahmoud, Hassan Shakoush and Omar Kamal took the lead as they are the most famous festivals around, although they have all had problems with the union this year.

Over the past month, audiences have taken to social media with a new chapter of disagreements between the captain and the festival’s singers, as Beka was sentenced to two years in jail for his attack on the union and the attack. against a grateful person, then Beka tries to apologize to the singer and the union on several occasions, but he didn’t. No response from Music Professions at this time.

An artist, not a singer

In more than one TV interview, Becca explains that he and most of his fellow festivals cannot be classified as singers, but that they are “performers” and should be treated as such, as Becca considers that festivals don’t need the singer in his traditional sense.

And Becca set up an art company to include festivals in Egypt, and he produces their songs in an organized fashion like other singers.

In a TV interview, Beka explained that his imprisonment for his case with the union would reduce the livelihoods of many of his workers, and that “festivals are not just a phenomenon that can be avoided”, and that he is nothing less than top class stars in Egypt like Amr Diab and Tamer Hosni.

In the same context, Becca, on behalf of all the festivals, sent a message through the program to the Union of Musical Professions, asking them to stay by their side to continue presenting their works without any pressure.

On the other hand, Hani Shaker (67 years old), and behind him the Musicians’ Union, believes that “festivals are more dangerous than drugs, corrupt the public’s taste and are not worthy of Egyptian artistic history”.

Art is not forbidden

On the other hand, art critic Tariq El-Shennawi considers the success of the festivals this year as “good news”, stressing that “the art originating in the Egyptian street has imposed itself on everyone and no one will be able to. stop broadcasting “.

El-Shennawy also told Sky News Arabia that the Musical Professions Union “wastes its energy to prevent art instead of helping to increase Egyptian music production in its various forms.”

He added: “Art is not prohibited, but alternative art is respected,” advising the union to provide good art if it considers festivals to be bad art.

Al-Shennawi points out that “what is happening these days with festivals reminds him of popular singer Ahmed Adawiya and his artistic debut in the presence of Egyptian singing giants Umm Kulthum, Abdel Halim Hafez and Muhammad Abdel Wahhab, then Adawiya a succeeded despite some fighting against him “.

“The spread of infection at the time did not prevent the continued success of the giants,” El-Shenawi says.

And the art critic continued, “I expect Hani Shaker himself to sing at a future festival, with less success than the stars of current festivals.
