Italian airline Alitalia, which has been in the custody of the judiciary since May 2017, has seen an increase in the number of passengers through its lines for the second consecutive month, according to one of its directors Sunday.
Luigi Gopituzi, a director appointed by the government last May, along with two other corporate executives, threatened with bankruptcy, said the results confirm that the company is on the right track.
Gopitozi told the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, "We end June with a growth of 10.6 percent in the number of passengers after growing 7.6 percent in May."
"In the second quarter, earnings will be balanced before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization are balanced after losses of $ 100 million last year.
Alitalia, with more than 11,000 employees, faces difficulties with low-cost European airlines.
The Italian airline was placed in May 2017 under guardianship at the request of its shareholders, after its employees refused a bailout of two billion euros, including the removal of 1,700 jobs.
German airline Lufthansa and the Cerberus group presented two offers for Alitalia, and EasyJet and Air France made a joint offer.
The Italian Government has postponed the date of sale of the company to October, having fixed the date of sale in April 2018.
