Scientists at the American Institute of Biological Studies have come up with a new way to determine the biological age of humans by identifying the activity of key genes in skin cells.
According to MedicalXpress, this method can take steps to prevent premature death if the results of the analysis show serious signs.
The researchers analyzed young and old connective tissue cells (fibroblasts) collected from 133 people aged 1 to 94 years. This type of cell helps heal wounds and produce the components of the substance between cells.
The researchers used a method called an RNA sequence to look for biological markers of aging as they age.
This method allows the nucleotide sequence in the information molecules of the ribosomal DNA, which allows the identification of active genes in the cells at a given age.
To this end, scientists used an automated learning algorithm to sort the data obtained and identify biological markers of aging. By using this method, the age of a biological person can be determined by an error rate of 8 years.
The analysis of fibroblasts from patients with progesterone showed that the body of these patients was 10 years older than their chronological age.
