OSIRIS-REx found traces of water on the asteroid Pino under investigation, NASA reported on Monday (December 10th).
Amy Simon, a researcher at the Goddard Space Flight Center in the Greenbelt in Maryland, said that there was water containing metals.
Data collected by two optical spectrometers indicate the presence of water on the asteroid, NASA said.
The experts involved in the maintenance of the OSIRIS-REX spacecraft believe that the remains of water on the asteroid are ubiquitous. Maybe the water was once on a large cosmic body, separated by an asteroid Pino. However, there was no liquid water because of its small size.
Previously, NASA had published its account on "Twitter"A video about the rotation of the asteroid Pino, which represents a potential threat to the Earth.
According to the agency, she plans to study the asteroid in about a year and the space probe will take Pino samples later for further research by scientists. The return of Osiris Rex on Earth is scheduled for September 2023.
The 500-meter orb was discovered by scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. According to expert calculations, he will approach the Earth in 2182. Pino is considered the most dangerous asteroid on Earth since 2013, after the asteroid Apophis lost this title .
