Experts from the Berlin Museum of Natural History have discovered the oldest cancerous tumor of the fossilized bones of a turtle, about 240 million years old.

According to the EurekAlert website, the results of the study showed that one of the ancestors of contemporary turtles, who lived in the Triassic era, had a femoral tumor, corresponding to bone sarcoma affecting the # 39; man. This type of tumor on the surface of the bone is characterized by rapid growth and spread, as well as the emergence of secondary tumor foci.

In 2016, an international research group led by scientists from the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa announced the discovery of the oldest cancer tumor in a 1.7 million year old bone, the oldest evidence of cancer in the past. According to the researchers, this discovery is proof that cancer is not the result of a contemporary lifestyle or the influence of the surrounding environment.
