Russian dentist Gennady Chargorodsky has revealed the impact of wearing medical masks on the health of teeth and gums.

Chargorodsky pointed out that covering the mouth and nose for long periods of time restricts the flow of moisture and can cause dry mouth, which contributes to tooth decay and gum disease, according to the Russian “Sputnik” agency. .

He said, “You have to wear a mask, but you also have to take breaks in a certain way so that all these pathological microorganisms come out of the oral cavity.”

He pointed out that wearing masks can also lead to bad breath, and in this regard he recommended brushing teeth and rinsing mouth with water several times a day during the pandemic period.

A member of the Union of Pediatricians of Russia, Irina Dobretsova, warned of the dangers of wearing masks for children under 6.

“Wearing a mask is dangerous for children under the age of 6 because the bronchial system is not sufficiently developed, which can make it difficult to breathe. This can lead to the death of children under the age of one. “said Dobretsova.

She noted that the mask causes shortness of breath in children and disrupts the flow of oxygen, and it can also cause sudden infant death syndrome.

She said the masks did not protect children from infection with the coronavirus, noting that the child would touch his face with dirty hands, in addition to the mask creating a warming effect in the nasal cavity, and with the presence of the immature respiratory system, bacteria multiply more actively.

The doctor added that the lack of air will cause children to breathe through their mouths, so that cold air will flow to the lungs. As a result, children get sick more often.

The doctor pointed out that a child can only wear a mask for a short time not exceeding 15 minutes in a busy place.
