Doha – tomorrow – Advancing knowledge about the Arab family and promoting evidence-based policies at the national, regional and international levels are at the heart of the Doha International Institute of the Family’s efforts to foster educated and healthy societies supported by strong families. and cohesive in Qatar and the Arab region.
In recognition of this commitment, the Doha International Family Institute, a member of the Qatar Foundation, received the first Family Friendly Institutions in the Arab Region Award for the year 2020 presented by the Department of Business of women, family and childhood in social affairs. The Institute will continue to honor the value of this award by striving to strengthen the Arab family through the development of scientific research and policy, and the development of evidence-based family policies to share with policy makers, to be evaluated. and promote family programs. “
This award recognizes the important role of organizations and institutions that highlight family issues and promote community cohesion. It aims to encourage organizations to focus on family issues to assert and protect their roles as cornerstones in building and sustaining societies.
The League of Arab States advanced the announcement of the award to 2020. The nomination of countries for leading family organizations has continued since then. The State of Qatar, through the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs, nominated the Doha International Family Institute, as the representative of Qatar, for this award.
The selection criteria, according to the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, included that the work of the organization be sustainable for more than 10 years in strengthening the role of the Arab family, women and children, as well as ” be one of the organizations that deals with the production of research and knowledge on Arab families and the protection of children and women, in addition to supporting various policies and protection systems at local and regional levels, and work on initiatives that help the Arab family to face their challenges.
In turn, Ambassador Dr. Haifa Abu-Ghazaleh, Assistant Secretary-General and Head of Social Affairs Sector of the League of Arab States, stressed that “The Family-Friendly Institutions Award is an Arab award that aims to encourage institutions concerned with family matters in the Arab region, and to promote awareness of the role of the Arab family in order to fulfill the role. »The important contribution to which it contributes to the construction and cohesion of society.
She added: “It was published at the request of member states of the League of Arab States and adopted with the recommendations of the tenth session of the Arab Family Committee, which was held under the chairmanship of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. in 2020 and consists of an arbitration committee made up of the three presidencies of the Arab countries, namely the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Islamic Republic of Mauritania and the United Arab Emirates.
The selection of the Doha International Family Institute, a member of the Qatar Foundation, to receive the Family Friendly Institutions Award for the year 2020 for its efforts at the national and regional levels and the strengthening of the role of the Arab family, which resulted in the partnership between the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States to prepare a program of studies on the family and sustainable development in the Arab region, as well as a major research project that we are currently carrying out together on the evaluation of marital relations during of the first five years of marriage.
The projects and initiatives of the Doha International Family Institute aimed at strengthening the Arab family at the international, regional and national levels have placed the Institute at the forefront of institutions concerned with the Arab family. For example, the regional efforts of the International Institute of the Family in Doha include generating knowledge about the state of marriage in the Arab world and strong family characteristics in the Arab region, as well as offering a grant “Osra” research to encourage more policy-friendly research in the Arab world. The Institute is currently working in cooperation with the League of Arab States to conduct a study on the assessment of marital relations in the Arab world during the early years of marriage, which will contribute to the development of related policies and programs.
At the national level, DIFI’s efforts include the production of research reports, the development of evidence for favorable policy outcomes, and extensive efforts to advocate for family policies and programs with various stakeholders and decision-makers to support the well-being and family cohesion. Examples of research conducted by the Institute to advocate for the development of related policies and programs in the State of Qatar include the social dimensions of fertility, work-family balance, adolescent well-being, ‘impact of COVID-19 on family cohesion, protection systems from domestic violence, and many other topics that concern promoting family cohesion and well-being.
