The Ministry of Health of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) reported 273 possible deaths due to the Ebola epidemic in the north-east of the country, of which 225 were detected by blood tests. laboratory.
Local authorities said the total number of cases rose to 471, including 423 confirmed laboratory tests and 48 possible cases, according to a report on the situation since the beginning of the epidemic on August 1 in the provinces of Kivu and Ituri (north of the country) until 5 December.
Efforts to combat the epidemic have been hampered by residents' refusal to receive treatment and the lack of security in the region.
Up to now, 44 people working in health centers have been infected (9% of the total cases) and 12 of them have died, according to the Ministry of Health.
The authorities have also expressed "concern" over the situation in the urban areas of Butembo and Katoa as well as in North Kivu, where a significant increase in cases of Ebola has been observed over the last three weeks.
It should be noted that since August 8, the date of the distribution of the vaccine, more than 41,000 people have received the vaccine.
