The African Confederation of African Football (CAF) decided Tuesday to organize the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, a few weeks after its decision to withdraw from Cameroon.
The Executive Board of the African Union (AU) held a long meeting on Tuesday morning in Dakar, the Senegalese capital, in the presence of all members. It was decided to award the organization to Egypt, after winning 16 votes, against a single vote in favor of the South African file.
Egypt hosts the African Cup of Nations for the fifth time in its history, after the editions of 1959, 1974, 1986 and 2006. The continental championship returns to Egypt after 13 years of absence.
The 2019 edition saw the participation of 24 teams in the Africa Cup of Nations after the CAF decision to increase the number of teams.
