Egyptian striker Mohamed Salah was named Africa Footballer of the Year for the second year in a row at the awards ceremony held in Dakar on Tuesday.

As in 2017, Salah beat his Senegalese teammate Sadio Manet and Arsenal striker Gabon Pierre-Emeric Obamyang.

The 26-year-old Egyptian striker has been crowned the BBC's best-ever player of the year in Africa this year.

He was crowned on Tuesday, the day his country was allowed to stage the 2019 Nations Africa Cup, Cameroon's successor, who withdrew from the tournament due to his lack of preparation, by going beyond South Africa.
