Elections and democratic transition in the Arab world: one step forward … two steps back

In “The Murder of the Assassinations” identities disappear at the moment of death. The dead, by the force of cowardly murder, become alone in a family book, at least that’s how I think.

Personally, I didn’t agree with everything the late Jamal Khashoggi said in his articles, his point of view was on the other side of my position, but I was undoubtedly very sad about the ugly science of his assassination. still her last moments with sadness, pain and horror, the method of her assassination in itself was a terror aimed at me personally.

The feeling is doubled when the murder victim is someone you know, shook his hand, sat down and joked with him, like Hisham Al-Hashemi, for example, the cowardly victim of the assassination in Iraq, a dirty assassination which also amounted to terrorism that targeted me personally. .

Before Khashoggi, “with whom I disagree and don’t know,” and Hisham Al-Hashemi, with whom I agree and know, “was the declared death of Jordanian writer Nahed Hattar, which I knew well and disagreed with. My grief was over Nahed’s pain and his murder was a direct terror aimed at my head personally.

A few days ago, terrorism by assassination becomes a ghost that does not leave with the unfortunate departure of the courageous victim Luqman Salim, “I do not know him and I agree with him”.

In the morning at my time in Western Europe, and at night in Eastern Standard Time in the United States, my friend Thaer Ghandour would call me and scream at me all the pain in the world to unify the timing on the pulse of Beirut, which stopped with the departure of Luqman Salim.

A revolutionary who not only knows Luqman, was close to direct influence and influence with the late Luqman, and the two put their image together in a famous poster which he compiled, revised and carefully prepared by the publication ” bloody “” Al-Akhbar “in Lebanon, and made it known to the public in a speech inciting murder under the title” The Shiites of the Embassy “! Also in the poster is Dr. Mona Fayyad, the woman who writes like a revolutionary storm for the good of the free man, and sits reverently like a wise woman with a gentle heart.

These are from the elite of my Lebanese friends, and from my point of view, I did not see any difference in views on Lebanon between Faris Khashan, the “Lebanese Christian Christian based on identity”, and Mona Fayyad, the Lebanese Shiite on Identity, as they spoke in front of me in a Tunis restaurant two years ago. Thaer was very happy at the time. Unlike his last call which ended with my “salty throat rattle” which crossed the entire Atlantic.

Faris Khashan is also targeted by the “Resistance and Defiance” group, but he is in less dangerous circumstances than Mona Fayyad, Thaer Ghandour and the rest of the “Shiite embassies” because Hezbollah is simply more aggressive with “Ahl al-Bayt “than its sectarian angle.

And because he was more fierce, Luqman, the “very wise”, had a goal of quick implementation. He, too, and his series of struggles with idea and word, was more fierce with “the people of the house” because of his high level of humanity and his “completely” unified vision of Lebanon as a state of institutions and law.

Lebanon, with its current reality, is a hijacker dependent on Hezbollah and Iranian mood, and historically ever since the idea of sects took control, as it is the only country in the world in in which the “investigation committee” is an accomplice or accomplice in the crime.

Therefore, the assassins, along with the instigators, and the plans of the assassins en route, all ask to await the results of the “committee of inquiry”, a step that would have been big and significant in the presence of a real state. , a state of institutions and law which does not dominate it and its laws, institutions and symbols of its authority. “And these are precisely the weakest In the spider’s web” the influence of Hezbollah, which controls every detail of “coexistence.”

A State which was and still is the elites of independent thought, free and transient of the “sectarian barriers” which required it. Among these elites were the distinguished subjects of the “Shia Embassy” poster, and in addition – compared to all – the late Luqman was “very wise”.

After his death, he discovered how beyond imagination he was. I read about him after his horrible murder everything his acquaintances wrote “and there are many of them.” My colleague Rustam Mahmoud writes here in Al-Hurra, for example, his last article, and he mentions there “as a normal event” that a month ago he and a group of his colleagues had a meeting with Luqman Salim , for the purpose of documentary work related to documenting the construction of a security apparatus in Iraqi Kurdistan during the enumeration era of dictator Saddam Hussein, documenting torture and violations, and defending victims even though they were died and were not seen.

I imagine the scale of activity in which Luqman was the “very wise” as he stretched out his hands everywhere to raise the voices of the victims, even in Iraqi Kurdistan.

Like others, I stood reverently listening to her sister, Rasha al-Amir, after her assassination she was giving us all a lesson in human ethics, she was brave like her brother Luqman, from home in the middle of the hegemony and influence ”of Hezbollah, the first and only suspect in the murder of Luqman, she spoke with sadness Very noble.

After that Umm Luqman, in her Egyptian dialect, swallowed her saliva with difficulty like any grieving mother and spoke with frightening human elevation, and despite the intense sadness, I felt reassured and calm.

He noticed a strange idea: his mother and sister were just fighting terror. The terror I felt was aimed at me in horror.

Murder Murder is the extreme case of the exclusion and elimination of the other.

In our miserable East, exclusion is a religious function which always bears the attribute of the sacred. There is an “imaginary bond of course” between him and God. Either the killers are conferred by God according to their point of view, or they are under the illusion that they are of his party.

In Iraq, with the rise of ISIS and other Sunni Salafi extremists, Christian homes in certain neighborhoods intermingled with “coexistence” were distinguished by a letter “n” on their doors, indicating the word “Christian”. “, which word in itself for a Christian in extremist Salafist literature.

However, the letter “n” has also found its way to the opposite point of exclusion in our Islamic world, be it Iraq or Lebanon, so the nickname “activist” also exposes you to being targeted at the door to your house like fire Hisham Al -Hashemi, or any area on the appropriate road to kill like fire Luqman Salim.

It is a new modern evocation in this East which is ruled by sectarian numbness for every stage of the “Assassins” and “Kharijites” and their bloody assassinations, and all believe with an “opiate” certainty that God is backing them.
