Khabarni – A popular campaign was launched Thursday to boycott the Emirati “Islamic Bank of Abu Dhabi” for its cooperation with the Israeli bank “Leumi”, which is involved in settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territories, according to ” Popular campaign to boycott Zionist institutions ”.

The popular campaign was widely publicized on social media platforms.

“For Palestine” account, the campaign spokesperson, said on “Twitter” last Wednesday: “Tomorrow (Thursday) at 8:00 am Mecca (05:00 GMT) the first campaign for us will begin.”

He added: “It will be the Islamic Bank of Abu Dhabi, which has struck a shameful deal with Bank Leumi, which is on the United Nations list of companies involved in Israeli colonization.”

He continued, “Boycott and tweet with us on # Boycott_Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank.”

And in another tweet: “Did you know that the World Zionist Organization, which established the Zionist entity in the land of Palestine and displaced millions of Palestinians, is the owner and founder of Bank Leumi, with which the Islamic Bank Abu Dhabi signed a cooperation agreement? ”

The UAE bank could not be reached for comment on the boycott campaign.

On September 16, Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, listed on the Abu Dhabi Financial Market, announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding with Bank Leumi, Israel’s second largest bank, to explore areas of cooperation with United Arab Emirates, Israel and other international markets.

The bank added, in a statement at the time, that the memorandum “will provide new business and business opportunities for customers and support travel for individuals to Israel, or companies seeking to benefit from entering a new market.” .

Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank is one of the largest retail banks in the United Arab Emirates, with capital of around 3.63 billion dirhams ($ 988 million).

The deal between the two banks came a day after the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain signed two agreements in Washington to normalize relations with Israel, in a move unprecedented in the Gulf.

On October 23, US President Donald Trump announced the agreement of Sudan and Israel to normalize relations between them, then revealed, on the penultimate Thursday, a similar agreement between Morocco and Israel.

These normalization steps with Tel Aviv raise widespread popular Arab rejection, in light of Israel’s continued occupation of Arab lands and its rejection of the creation of an independent Palestinian state.

On December 10, the campaign to boycott Zionist institutions was launched, under the slogan “Boycott for Palestine,” with the participation of 16 non-governmental organizations, including the UAE League for Resistance to Normalization.

The campaign aims to reject normalization and support the Palestinian people and their struggle to restore their “stolen rights” and the boycott of Israeli property and print institutions, according to a campaign statement at the time.
