A scientific study has found a modern way to diagnose type 2 diabetes and heart disease by simply illuminating the skin.
Scientists have said that the presence of high concentrations of certain proteins affected to the skin, linked to an increased risk of diabetes and heart disease, according to a report published by the British website "Daily Mail".
The proteins called IgE are linked to hyperglycemia, arteriosclerosis and hypertension.
These proteins can neutralize "fluorescent" light when a particular light is projected onto the skin, which can replace the blood sample to detect diabetes and heart disease.
In the first study of this type, researchers at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands analyzed data from 72,000 participants, who were in perfect health.
The team looked at the IgE proteins that form when proteins or fats combine with sugar molecules.
The researchers performed this step by illuminating a small patch of skin in the participants.
Participants subsequently reported a diagnosis of heart disease or diabetes and the researchers also collected the number of deaths from these diseases in local databases.
After about 4 years, 1,056 participants developed type 2 diabetes, 1,258 were diagnosed with heart disease and 928 died.
The results showed that people with high levels of IgE protein on the skin at the beginning of the study, including diabetes and heart rate, or even premature death.
Researchers believe that the speed and inaccuracy of the test make it possible "in public places, such as shops or pharmacies".
