Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has congratulated the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, for his victory in the 2019 Asian Cup for the first time in his history.
According to sources quoted by the Turkish presidency, Turkish news agency Anatolia said the Turkish president had congratulated Sheikh Tamim for his "deserved" victory of the title of the Qatar Cup of Asia.
Erdogan and the Qatari emir stressed the need to strengthen cooperation between their two countries in all areas and to maintain communication between Doha and Ankara.
The Qatari team won the Asian Cup for the first time in its history after winning the final of the 2019 version, against his Japanese counterpart by three goals against one.
