European clubs have threatened Friday to boycott a new version of the FIFA Club World Cup proposed by the president of the International Football Association.

This week, Infantino was hoping to get support for two new lucrative world cups with the participation of national teams, the second being a modified version of the FIFA Club World Cup with 24 teams, with a pilot version of the two championships in 2021.

He was forced to abandon his plan for the World League even before the FIFA meeting on Friday because there was no consensus on the tournament and his timing of international relations was staggering .

But Infantino wants to go ahead with his project to launch a "test version" of the Club World Cup with 24 teams.

The European Clubs Association, headed by Andrea Aniele, also president of Juventus, has sent a letter to the European Football Confederation (EU) and Infantino has signed a 15-member position on the board of directors, including officials from Manchester United, Barcelona and Ajax Amsterdam.

The club has 232 European clubs, including all major teams likely to participate in the Club World Cup.

The current edition of the annual Club World Cup, which involves seven teams, does not attract much interest in Europe, the center of gravity of international football.
